This policy explains what information clemency.com collects, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. clemency.com is run by Criminal Center, 1701 Pennsylvania Ave NW # 200, Washington, DC 20006. Phone: 202-990-2500. Email: help@criminalcenter.com. Criminal Center LLC is the firm behind this site. We handle federal criminal defense and federal clemency matters. This policy covers the public website, the consultation form, text messages from our office number, and the clemency petition questions we invite some clients to fill out.
Before you send us anything
Contacting us through this site, by phone, by text, or by email does not make us your lawyer. Information you send before we agree to represent you may not be confidential. Please do not send details about your case until we have talked. The consultation form and the petition questions are for intake and scheduling, not for sending case details before a representation agreement is in place.
How do I contact you about privacy?
For any privacy question or request, contact Criminal Center LLC directly: email help@criminalcenter.com, call or text 202-990-2500, or write to Criminal Center, 1701 Pennsylvania Ave NW # 200, Washington, DC 20006. That is the same address and phone listed in the site footer. help@criminalcenter.com is the only email address we use for privacy requests on this site.
What do you collect?
- What you give us on the consultation form. When you fill out the form on this site (on the initial consultation page), we collect what you type: who is reaching out (you, or a family member or friend), your name, email address, and phone number; the name of the person charged when someone else is writing in; an optional Bureau of Prisons register number; the stage of the federal case; the federal court or that you are not charged yet or do not know; an optional case number; charge types and a short description; optional court, sentencing, or release dates; the service you want (for example clemency); whether a lawyer is on the case now; and whether you check the optional box agreeing to texts. If you call or text us, we get your phone number and what you tell us.
- Spam checks on the consultation form. The form measures how quickly it was filled out and includes a hidden field that people do not see. We use those checks only to block automated spam. The public consultation form does not use a third-party captcha.
- Clemency petition questions (by invitation). If we invite you to fill out our clemency petition questions, we collect the answers you enter, any documents you upload, and the petition draft we prepare from those answers so we can review a petition with you. The public questions do not ask for a Social Security number. If a number is needed for signing, staff enter it later, and it is not kept after a petition is marked filed. The tool uses Cloudflare Turnstile to check that a person is submitting. You can reopen an unfinished form with a resume link. After you send it, only Criminal Center staff allowed into the admin page can view it.
- What your browser sends. Like any website, our hosting provider receives basic technical information when you visit, such as your IP address, browser type, and the pages you request. It uses this to deliver the site and protect it from attacks.
- Cookies. We do not use advertising cookies. Our hosting provider, Cloudflare, may set cookies needed for security and to keep the site working.
- Visit statistics. We use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which counts visits in aggregate (pages viewed, the referring site, country, and device type). It does not use cookies and does not identify you.
- How you found us. When you first open one of our pages, your browser keeps a short note for that browser session only (it is not a cookie): the site and page you landed on, the kind of site that sent you (for example, a search engine or AI assistant), and any campaign tags in the link. If you book a consultation, that note is sent with your request and stored with your intake record in Zoho Bigin. It does not include your name or contact details.
How do you use it?
- To answer your request and decide whether we can help.
- To schedule and remind you about consultations.
- If you hire us, to communicate with you about your case.
- To prepare and review a clemency petition when you use the petition questions.
- To keep the site working and defend it against attacks.
We do not sell your information, and we do not use it for advertising. We do not use your inquiry to build marketing profiles or to run ads on other sites.
Who do you share it with?
We do not sell, rent, or trade your information, and we do not transfer or share it with outside organizations except as strictly necessary to deliver our messages and operate our services (the service providers listed below, which act only on our behalf) or when the law requires it.
We share information only with companies that help us run the firm, and only so they can do that work for us:
- Cloudflare hosts this website, delivers pages, helps protect the site from attacks, and processes form submissions that go through this site. On the clemency petition questions, Cloudflare Turnstile is also used as a spam check.
- Zoho (Bigin) is where we keep our contact and intake records. Consultation requests sent through this site go there through a private lead-intake worker. When a petition-questions intake is submitted, we send a short pointer to Bigin (name, phone, email, petition type, and a staff link to the intake). The petition answers themselves stay with the intake store, not in Bigin.
- GoTo handles our phone calls and text messages from 202-990-2500.
We may also share information if the law requires it, or to protect our rights or someone’s safety. We do not list advertising networks or data brokers because we do not use them.
What about text messages?
Criminal Center LLC sends our text messages from 202-990-2500. If you text us at 202-990-2500, or check the optional box agreeing to texts on one of our website forms, we will text you at that number about your inquiry. Agreeing to texts is not required to get help. If you book a consultation, we will also send appointment reminders. If you become a client, we may also send case updates. Message frequency varies. On average, 1–2 messages per month. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to stop receiving texts, or HELP for help. See our Text Messaging Terms.
We do not sell, rent, or share your mobile phone number or your text-message opt-in with third parties or affiliates for their marketing or promotional purposes. Text-message opt-in data and consent are not shared with any third parties, except the phone-service provider (GoTo) that delivers our messages.
Your mobile number and text-message consent will not be shared with any outside organization except as strictly necessary for message delivery by our phone-service provider, GoTo.
Clemency petition questions in more detail
The petition questions tool is separate from the short consultation form. It exists so we can gather the information that belongs in a federal pardon or commutation petition. Answers and uploads are encrypted when we store them (application-layer encryption before they are written to our database and file store). The list of forms shows a short name (your first initial and last name) so staff can find a form. Unfinished forms are deleted after 90 days without changes. After a petition is marked filed, we delete the answers, uploads, and the petition draft we prepared after a retention period (180 days by default). A Social Security number entered by staff for signing is deleted as soon as the petition is marked filed. We do not put a Social Security number, date of birth narratives, or full case answers into Bigin.
The petition questions are by invitation only. We do not collect petition answers from anyone we have not invited to fill them out.
How long do you keep it?
We keep inquiry records as long as we need them to respond, to check for conflicts of interest, and to meet our legal and professional obligations. Client files are kept as the rules governing lawyers require. Draft petition-questions records that sit unfinished are purged on the schedule described above. Filed petition packages are purged after the retention window. Session attribution notes last only for the browser session unless you submit a consultation request, in which case the note is stored with the Bigin intake record.
Is it secure?
- Access to personal information, including phone numbers and text-message consent records, is limited to authorized firm personnel who need it to respond to you.
- We keep internal policies and procedures to prevent unauthorized use or sharing of personal information. Our service providers may use it only to provide their services to us.
- We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards while we handle personal information and while messages are delivered, including encrypted connections and access-controlled accounts. Petition answers and uploads are encrypted at rest in the intake store as described above.
No website, email, or text system is completely secure. Please do not send sensitive details through this site until we have agreed on how to handle them.
Links to other sites
This website contains links to other sites, including government pages and booksellers. We are not responsible for the content or privacy practices of those sites. When you leave clemency.com, read the privacy statement of the site you visit.
What about children?
This site is not meant for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child under 13 has submitted information through this site, email help@criminalcenter.com and we will delete it.
What choices do I have?
You can ask us what information we have about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it where the law allows. Email help@criminalcenter.com or call 202-990-2500. To stop texts, reply STOP. Stopping texts does not delete your consultation record; ask us separately if you want that record corrected or deleted where the law allows.
Will this policy change?
If we change this policy, we will post the new version here with a new effective date. Continued use of the site after a change means you have seen the updated policy.
What should I do next?
Request a consultation and tell us what happened. We’ll listen, tell you whether we can help, and explain what comes next.
